Gianfranco Marrone teaches semiotics at the University of Palermo, where he is head of the second-level Master’s degree in the culture and communication of taste. He also teaches the semiotics of food and the ethics of taste at the Univer- sity of Gastronomic Sciences in Pollenzo.
Essayist and writer specializing in criticism of the culture and languages of con- temporaneity, writes regularly for several newspapers. His publications include Stupidità e scrittura (Palermo 1990); Il sistema di Barthes (Milano 1994), Estetica del telegiornale (Roma 1998), C’era una volta il telefonino (Roma 1999); Corpi sociali (Torino 2001), Montalbano (Roma 2003), La cura Ludovico (Torino 2005), Il discorso di marca. Modelli semiotici per il branding (2009) and L’invenzione del testo (Roma 2010). He has edited Italian versions of works by Barthes, Greimas and Floch.
