Carlo Boccadoro

Carlo Boccadoro, born in Macerata in 1963, graduated at Giuseppe Verdi Conservatoire in Milan. He has more than 30 years of experience as a composer: his music was featured in prominent concert halls and events, including La Scala in Milan, the Aspen Music Festival, the Monday Evening Concerts (Los Angeles), the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, the La Scala Philharmonic Orchestra, the Gewandhaus in Leipzig, the Musikverein in Vienna, the Teatro Regio in Parma. He works as well as conductor with La Scala Orchestra, the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI, the Royal Philarmonic Orchestra, and others. In 2004 Luciano Berio commissioned him to compose for the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia the children’s opera La Nave a Tre Piani, which made its debut in 2005 at the Auditorium in Rome, conducted by Boccadoro himself. In 1997, with Filippo Del Corno e Angelo Miotto, Boccadoro founded the ensemble Sentieri selvaggi, aiming to close the gap between the contemporary music scene and the large audience. Since 2017, he has been the artistic director of the concert season of the Scuola Normale Superiore of Pisa.

As a musicologist, has published several books (both academic and not academic), including: with Einaudi Musica Coelestis (1999), Jazz! (2001), Lunario della Musica (2003), Racconti Musicali (2009), Analfabeti sonori (2019) and Bach e Prince. Vite parallele (2021); and with SEM 12 storie di dischi irripetibili, musica e lampi di vita (2018). He authored two children books: La grande battaglia musicale e altre avventure sonore (Marcos y Marcos 2015) and Le 7 note per 7 musicisti (Mondadori 2016). In 2010 he published with Classica Italia a book-interview with Daniel Barenboim on the music of Frédéric Chopin
